Elilula Guest Houses in Preá, Ceará, Brazil by Elisa Commanay & Romain Conti-Granteral

The first executed project by Elisa and Romain, French architects based in England, Elilula is a set of vacation and hospitality residences in one of the world’s leading destinations for kite-surfing.

The first part of the photo essay focuses on the main house, a two-story wooden building facing the sea. The project involved local carpentry teams, who carried out all the structure, cladding and closures. The spacious environments do not have glass panes or air conditioning, and all spaces channel and distribute the constant flow of wind.

The second part of the photo essay focuses on the nine bungalows, consisting of seven suites and two communal kitchens. The construction language is different from the main house; here, the wooden structures emerge from concrete foundations and is topped with straw and reed roofing. Each bungalow was laid out with furniture and artworks from different designers and artists.
